Tuchel Tuchel admits he was concerned following Tottenham’s elimination from the Europa Conference League because it allowed Antonio Conte to focus on Spurs’ Premier League campaign.
Spurs were eliminated from the European competition in December after UEFA ruled that their postponed match against Rennes due to Covid would be recorded as a forfeit.
Tottenham have been on an excellent run of form in recent weeks and are now in pole position to qualify for a place in next season’s as they sit fourth in the Premier League.
Spurs are five points behind , who have played two games fewer but are in action on Wednesday evening as they host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
And ahead of his side’s fixture against the Gunners, Tuchel believes Spurs and Arsenal have both benefited from their early exits in cup competitions this season.
‘They have been given a huge advantage,’ said Tuchel.
‘I was not happy when Tottenham were out of the [Europa] Conference League.
‘Because I thought, ‘wow, I know what can do with teams when they are focused and he can train them physically’.
‘I thought this will be a huge uplift for them in the domestic competition, and the same for when they went out of the cup.
‘I thought it would be a huge boost for them, because they have a very young and talented team.’
