boss says there’s ‘a chance’ still has a future at the club but he’s not sure if the Belgian will return to Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku made a £97million return to the club last summer from Inter Milan but he returned to the San Siro earlier this month, signing a season-long loan deal with the Serie A giants.
The Belgium striker fell out with Tuchel after he gave an interview in December when he revealed plans to return to Inter and criticised the German’s tactics.
Lukaku lost his place to for the second half of the season and made it clear that he wanted to return to Italy.
However, Inter’s financial situation means they were only able to sign Lukaku on loan and there’s no obligation to buy clause included in the deal for the Belgian.
With that in mind, it’s possible that the former Manchester United star could return to Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel says this is a possibility but refused to get drawn on how likely it is.
‘We decided together with the owners that we’d let him go,’ said the German.
‘It was his wish to go, he had the possibility, we let him go.
‘We brought now Raheem Sterling, which gives us a lot of flexibility, a lot of mobility, a lot of attacking options at the front, even if we don’t recruit more players.’
‘Given the fact he’s just on loan, of course there’s a chance.
‘I don’t know if it’s very likely, but it’s not on me to give an outlook on that. There is a chance for it.’
