insists Levi Colwill will still get a chance to impress during ’s pre-season campaign.
The 19-year-old made a huge impact on loan at Huddersfield Town last season and has been tipped to challenge for a place in Chelsea’s defence in the upcoming campaign.
Colwill has joined Chelsea’s first-team squad for their pre-season tour of the United States but his preparations have been disrupted by a groin injury.
Several Premier League clubs are interested in a move for Colwill including and , while reports have claimed that the defender will consider leaving Stamford Bridge if the club sign another new centre-back this summer.
But Tuchel has told Colwill that he will be given the chance to impress during Chelsea’s pre-season matches.
When asked about Colwill’s situation, Tuchel said during his press conference on Tuesday: ‘With Levi it’s too early to give an answer.
‘Everything I would say now I would maybe have to take back or give another opinion in some weeks.
‘Simply, I haven’t seen enough of him in our group because unfortunately he got a little injury and was out of training for several days.
‘And once you’re out for several days in it takes a while to catch up again, especially for players who are not used to training at that kind of level like Levi.
‘The fact he’s still here is very easy, we don’t know him enough so he needs to stay here, we need to have further impressions, we need more impressions of him to get a better outlook on the situation.
‘He had a good spell on loan, and we need to think carefully at the end of pre-season what’s best for him.
‘I can only repeat, like Trevoh Chalobah did last season and Malang Sarr, everybody is invited to do the same, this is the same situation for Levi.’
