Tim Sherwood says should not be in a shirt and lacks quality after the Red Devils were .
Weghorst came off the bench with 12 minutes of normal time to play, replacing , but was unable to help United to find an equaliser at Wembley.
Weghorst appears to have played his last game for United after arriving on loan from Championship winners Burnley in January until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old Netherlands international striker registered just two goals for United across 31 appearances.
‘Wout Weghorst should not be in a Manchester United shirt,’ Sherwood told Stadium Astro at Wembley.
‘He runs around and tries hard but for me he doesn’t have the quality. They are crying out for centre-forward and they need that as soon as possible.
‘They have a lot of quality in other areas and wide players who can affect a game.
‘But you need a focal point, someone who can hold up the ball and help Marcus Rashford out.’
Manchester City beat Erik ten Hag’s side 2-1 and are now one game away from becoming the second .
Reflecting more generally about United’s defeat in the FA Cup final, Sherwood added: ‘I’m not sure they were below par, they just haven’t got a pattern of play like Man City have.
‘They rely on individual talent like a Bruno Fernandes or Marcus Rashford turning up and doing something special.
‘Man City have a structure. They rest on the ball. When they’re tired they keep possession and make the pitch big.
‘When they need to get it to Erling Haaland quick they can do that as well. They’re the best side in the world at the moment, you have to give them credit. They were efficient today. They didn’t have to be fantastic but just win the game.’
