is prepared to stay at RB Leipzig and fight for his place in the side rather than move to in January.

The former forward has emerged as a shock target for United heading into the New Year.

although no offer has been made with no negotiations taking place at this stage.

Werner spent two years at Chelsea before returning to his former club in August 2022.

He scored 16 goals in his first season back at Leipzig but has seen first-team opportunities dry up this season, handed just three starts in all competitions with two goals to his name.

While Werner is not satisfied with his situation, Sky Sport Germany report United have already been informed his preference is to remain at the club and force his way back into the team.

United secured their biggest win of the season in their 3-0 victory over Everton on Sunday but have struggled in front of goal this term with 16 scored in 13 league games – making them the lowest goal scorers in the top 10.

Rasmus Hojlund, signed from Atalanta in a £72million deal in the summer, has scored five times in the Champions League but is still to get off the mark in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 times last season, has scored just once this season with Anthony Martial scoring twice.

Hojlund missed the win at Goodison Park after suffering a hamstring injury prior to the international break in the win over Luton.

ahead of United’s huge clash with Galatasaray, a game they must realistically win to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

United then head to Newcastle for another major test away from home. Eddie Howe’s side eliminated United from the Carabao Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 win at Old Trafford last month.
