Former striker Tony Cottee has urged the club to sign Jesse Lingard and Michael Keane in the summer.

The Irons have had another excellent season under , with the east club seventh in the Premier League and in the semi-finals of the , with another campaign in Europe next season likely.

However, the pressures of the additional matches have taken its toll, with the side securing just three wins from their last 10 league games.

As such, the club is expected to make several signings this summer to bolster the impressive but small squad and Cottee has named two players he would like to see at the London Stadium.

‘West Ham needs to sign players like [Jesse] Lingard, like Michael Keane,’ the former West Ham, Everton and Leicester man told .

‘Players like that, good English players, coming and buying into what David Moyes got going on and want to be a part of the squad and that good team spirit they’ve got there.’

Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, scoring nine and assisting five in just 16 appearances, but the club failed to prize him away from Manchester United on a permanent transfer last summer.

The attacking midfielder is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of this season when his contract expires but the Hammers will have competition to sign him with Newcastle also heavily linked to the 29-year-old.

Keane on the other hand still has three years left to run on his Everton contract, but the centre-back could be available on the cheap this summer if the Toffees get relegated.

While he has proven to be an inconsistent figure at Goodison Park, Keane still has 12 caps for England and a fresh break away from the chaos at Everton, under a new manager in Moyes might help the 29-year-old return to form.

Cottee wasn’t finished there though, suggesting that the club needed to sign several new players, adding: ‘I think first and foremost West Ham should have signed players in the January window. That would have helped what’s going on.

‘The main priority in terms of this summer transfer window is to sign a centre-forward. They’ve had two years without one.

‘Michail Antonio is a fabulous player. I love watching him play but he is a converted right-back who became a centre-forward. He’s not a natural centre-forward.

‘Then you look at the midfield. What do you do with players like [Andriy] Yarmolenko, Alex Král and [Nikola] Vlasic who’s been very disappointing this year? These players haven’t quite progressed as they should have done.

‘West Ham, without a doubt, probably needs five or six new players into the squad. They’ve also got quite a few players out of contract, five or six players leaving so that’s a surplus of requirements. It’s exciting times at the football club.’
