has explained the signings of Radu Dragusin and and believes both have the right mentality to drive his side forward.

Spurs have been the ’s most active side in the January transfer market so far, with the club desperately needing to add depth to their squad having suffered countless injuries in the first half of the season.

Despite courting last-minute interest from Bayern Munich, centre-back

The 21-year-old will provide competition for first-choice duo Cristian Romero and Micky van der Ven, with Postecoglou revealing the Romanian was the club’s number one priority heading into the window.

‘We’ve been working on the centre-back position pretty much since the summer window closed and there’s been a whole list of players we worked through methodically,’ Postecoglou said.

‘They presented it to me probably six weeks ago. From that onwards, Radu was always on the radar as one of the players we thought would be a good option for us. Then it was about getting as much information on him as a player and a person.

‘We spoke to as many people about him as possible and had him scouted again and I’ve been following him since we highlighted him. In my mind, once we got down to the real details, I thought he was the best option for us.

‘Before the window opened we made the decision that Radu would be our number one priority. I like his defensive attributes, his physical attributes, I there’s still a lot of growth in him.’

Werner, meanwhile, with an option to make the deal permanent for a measly £14.6m.

The German endured two profligate seasons while at Chelsea but Postecoglou believes the 27-year-old’s versatility and mentality will ensure he thrives in the Premier League this time around.

‘I had a good chat to [Technical Director] Johan Lange about it and thought Timo would be a really good fit for us stylistically,’ the Australian explained.

‘He certainly has the kind of attributes we look for. A player in that space – he can play in all three positions so that’s some real depth and quality for us in the front third.

‘After I had a chat to him he’s really motivated, really likes the opportunity Tottenham can give him in terms of where he’s at in his career. And I think it’s something that can add to us as a group.’
