Tottenham are set to rival and Newcastle for the signing of Brighton star Leandro Trossard according to reports.
Trossard’s contract expires in the summer, though .
However, it seems that the winger’s time at the Amex is coming to an end after he failed to feature in the Seagulls’ last two games, despite being one of his side’s most important players.
Roberto De Zerbi left the 28-year-old on the bench for last week’s 4-1 win at and he was absent from the squad altogether for their 5-1 victory at Middlesbrough in the on Saturday.
‘I’d like to always play with Leo in the first eleven, but it doesn’t depend only on me, it depends on Leo,’ the manager said.
‘I don’t know, but with me I want players that work for the team on the pitch and Leandro knows very well my opinion, my idea. I’ve spoken a lot of times with him.
‘I like him as a player, but I want more from him, because he can play better, he can work harder, he can run more on the pitch and I want players who give 100 per cent in every training session and every game.
‘Without these characteristics, then they can’t play with me.’
This has all fuelled speculation that Trossard is unhappy at Brighton, despite their impressive form this season, and is seeking a move to a bigger club.
Chelsea and Newcastle have been closely linked, largely thanks to the Belgium international’s relationship with former Brighton boss Graham Potter who left for Stamford Bridge back in September.
But the report that Tottenham are now also keeping tabs on the former Genk man’s situation as Antonio Conte looks to add some firepower to his team.
Trossard already has seven goals and three assists in the Premier League this season, including a stunning hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield.
His versatility that allows him to play not only as a forward but at wing-back as well should also appeal to Conte.
