is not happy with his reduced role for this season and was left ‘unimpressed’ by Erik ten Hag’s response to losing to Brentford, according to reports.

The Portuguese superstar told United’s hierarchy earlier this summer that he wanted to leave the club and missed most of due to ‘family reasons’.

He was subsequently left out of the starting XI for the season opener against Brighton before being restored to the line-up against Brentford – though the team suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat.

Ronaldo has only made the bench in United’s following two matches, but Ten Hag’s selections have been fully vindicated with back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Southampton in the past week.

But while the Red Devils may have got back to winning ways – and moved up to seventh place in the table in the process – their five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains a disgruntled presence.

According to , Ronaldo was less than impressed with Ten Hag’s response to the defeat against Brentford and took particular umbrage with his post-match comments.

The 37-year-old did not agree with his manager’s decision to publicly criticise the players and their physical output – or lack of – in west London.

Nor was he particularly amused when United’s day off the following Sunday was cancelled, with the players forced to run 13.8km – the same amount Brentford had run more than them the day previous.

Ronaldo has also been left out of the starting XI in the two matches since and, even with Anthony Martial injured, was only handed a 22-minute cameo against Southampton.

The former Real Madrid forward also still feels let down by United over their failure to qualify for the Champions League last season and believes he held up his end of the bargain by top-scoring for the club and netting 18 times in the Premier League.

Ronaldo wants to be allowed to leave Old Trafford before Thursday’s deadline and Ten Hag is increasingly keen for that to happen, though there are a number of issues preventing it.

United would want a replacement attacker signed – and potentially another striker on top of that – and talks to sign Antony from Ajax have so far proven tricky.

Ronaldo also needs to find a new club, but agent Jorge Mendes is having trouble finding anyone able to take on his enormous salary with an offer from Saudi Arabia – which the veteran forward has rejected – the only official proposal received by United.
