legend believes Arsenal’s ‘really good’ signings could see the club beat Manchester City to the title next season.
The Gunners have spent £200m this summer on , Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz.
Mikel Arteta was keen to strengthen the spine of his side after the Gunners’ title challenge collapsed in the final weeks of last season.
The Gunners ended up finishing five points adrift of Manchester City, having had an eight-point lead just seven games earlier.
Arsenal beat Wayne Rooney’s MLS All Stars 5-0 in Washington on Wednesday with goals from Havertz, Jorginho, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
And Rooney believes the club’s signings this summer could see them complete the ‘very difficult’ task of toppling City.
‘I think for anyone to challenge is probably very difficult but I really like the players Arsenal have signed,’ said Rooney.
‘I think they have signed some really good players, with experience as well.
‘When you look at the players Arsenal have got and signed, they have really built a strong platform for them to try and do better than they did last season and I think they will.
‘They have got a really good coach in Mikel Arteta and I think the new signings will help them to try and not do what they did, which was fall away towards the end of last season.’
