have put a quite incredible asking price of £150m on , with and interested in the midfielder, but probably not at that figure.

Still only 23, Rice has long been linked with a move away from the Hammers, with United, Chelsea and Manchester City all touted as potential destinations.

The England international is not publicly pushing for a move, but is expected to take the leap to a bigger club at some stage, with his West Ham contract running until 2024 – with the club able to extend by a further year.

The Hammers will cash in on him before then, clearly not intending to lose him on a free transfer, but if it is to be this summer then they want it to be a British record transfer.

report that West Ham will insist on £150m for their standout talent, which would shatter the British record set last summer when Manchester City paid Aston Villa £100m for Jack Grealish.

In fact, it would make Rice the third most expensive player of all time, only behind Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, which would be quite remarkable.

Whether West Ham would be able to get what they want is yet to be seen, with neither United nor Chelsea likely to spend that kind of money on the Englishman.

Harming the Hammers’ chances is the uncertainty at Chelsea, with the club’s owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned by the UK government and set to be sold in the near future.

It is unclear what their spending power will be over the summer, with the Blues currently unable to buy any players under the sanctions, although that should not be the case by the time the transfer window swings open.

If the Red Devils are the only realistic buyer for Rice then £150m is extremely unlikely as no bidding war would ensue.

The situation at Old Trafford is also uncertain, with the manager for next season still unknown and presumably any major signing needing to be signed off by the new boss.
