Sarina Wiegman praised the Lionesses for sticking to their gameplan and silencing the home crowd after beat Australia to progress to the final.

The Lionesses booked a spot to take on in Sunday’s showpiece after goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo.

England were favourites in front of a sold out 76,000-strong crowd at Stadium Australia but the support for the Matildas was strong, as the Aussies looked to reach the final for the first time in their history.

But, barring a 15-minute spell before Russo’s late goal, England kept Australia at bay and played the ‘unemotional’ game that Weigman had requested.

Weigman spoke to her squad in a huddle on the pitch at full-time and Lucy Bronze has revealed she praised her players for their display and sticking to the gameplan.

Asked what Weigman said, Bronze replied: ‘Just that we played the game how we wanted to. That we were resilient. That we were determined.

‘I couldn’t hear much else what she was saying to be honest! But she spoke about…we knew the crowd would be crazy tonight…she spoke about silencing them and I think we did that after the third goal.’

Barcelona star Bronze will come up against many of her club team-mates when she takes on Spain on Sunday.

Bronze says Spain’s defeat against Japan shows they’re beatable.

‘Spain have been very good, they did have that defeat against Japan,’ said Bronze.

‘Me and Keira know 90% of the squad very well so we’ll be getting questions in the analysis I’m sure.’
