The appearances of the two Italian giants in the last four comes on the back of them having spent much of the last decade in the wilderness.

AC Milan did not feature in the competition at all between 2013/14 and 2021/22, whilst Inter were absent from 2011/12 until 2018/19.

However, despite their poor recent records at European football’s top table, both clubs are steeped in Champions League and European Cup history with multiple victories in the competition.

Let’s take a look at when AC Milan and Inter Milan were last crowned as Kings of Europe ahead of this evening’s .

When was the last time AC Milan won the Champions League?

AC Milan last won the Champions League in the 2006/07 season.

The averted Greek tragedy 16 years ago was the second time Milan had won the Champions League under following on from their victory over Juventus on penalties in 2002/03.

In total, Milan ; 1962/63, 1968/69, 1988/89, 1989/90, 1993/94, 2002/03 and 2006/07.

Only Real Madrid have won the Champions League more often than AC Milan with an .

Since last winning the competition in 2007, Milan have only reached the quarter-final stage once in 2011/12.

When was the last time Inter Milan won the Champions League?

Inter Milan’s last victory in the Champions League came in 2009/10.

The win in the Spanish capital saw the Nerazzurri become the first Italian team ever to win a treble following on from their Serie A and Coppa Italia triumphs.

It was Inter’s third Champions League title in total, following on from back-to-back wins in 1963/64 and 1964/65.

Since their victory 13 years ago, Inter’s best result before this season was reaching the quarter-finals in 2010/11.
