continue their La Liga title quest against Las Palmas today – but they will have to make do without star man who will not be playing in the Canary Islands.
The star has been in scintillating form for Los Blancos following his last year, so far this season.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has even described Bellingham as the best player in the world, such has been the impact that the former Birmingham City man has had at the Spanish giants.
Madrid’s match this afternoon is tricky-looking on paper, at least, with Las Palmas sat in eighth in La Liga having lost only twice at home this campaign.
Why is Jude Bellingham not playing for Real Madrid today?
Bellingham will not be playing for Real Madrid this afternoon having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the on Sunday.
The midfielder was booked in the closing stages at the Bernabeu for his involvement in a fracas which followed Madrid’s 99th minute winner, which Bellingham set up for Dani Carvajal to slot home.
Similarly to the Premier League, La Liga rules dictate that players are made to serve a one match suspension if they pick up five yellow cards before a certain cut-off point.
The booking was Bellingham’s ninth caution of the season in all competitions for Madrid, having also received two yellow cards in the Champions League and one apiece in the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
Bellingham, who scored Madrid’s first goal against Almeria in their heroic comeback from 0-2 down, will be available for selection again against Getafe next Thursday.
Ancelotti’s men are currently one point behind surprise package Girona at the top of the table, although they do have a game in hand.
What is Real Madrid’s record without Jude Bellingham?
Bellingham has featured in all but four of Real Madrid’s fixtures in all competitions this season.
The 20 year-old also missed out against Las Palmas in the reverse fixture back in September, with Ancelotti electing to keep him on the bench as Madrid ran out 2-0 winners.
Bellingham was also restricted to a watching brief for their 3-0 Champions League group stage win over Braga in November, whilst he was an unused substitute in the Copa del Rey victory over Arandina earlier this month.
The only game Bellingham has missed through injury this season was the home clash with Valencia in November, with his teammates doing the business with a 5-1 win as the midfielder sat out the game with a shoulder complaint.
