William Gallas has ruled Chelsea out of the Premier League title race after criticising the Blues’ lack of transfer business so far this summer.
’s side were tipped to battle Liverpool and Manchester City for the title last term but they finished well behind the top two as Chelsea came third.
However, though the Blues have signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, they’ve lost Andreas Christensen, and .
Gallas feels that’s made Chelsea weaker than they were last season and is ruling his former club out of the title race.
But the Frenchman believes two of his other former clubs – Arsenal and Tottenham – can both challenge for the title next season and will be much closer to Liverpool and City.
‘I think that Tottenham and can get closer and challenge the likes of and LIverpool,’.
‘I like what both clubs have done in the transfer market and I’m expecting a lot of competition towards the top of the league this season.Â
‘I think , with the squad they have at the moment, will finish behind Arsenal and Tottenham. Chelsea haven’t done enough yet in the transfer market – at this moment they’ve only brought in Sterling and Koulibaliy – that is not enough for a club like Chelsea.
‘Chelsea didn’t win the league last season, and you expect them to make a statement and bring in players to improve the squad, but they haven’t done that. I’m not sure why they haven’t signed more players – maybe they still will. I don’t know why they haven’t strengthened significantly yet – I feel Chelsea could suffer this season if they don’t.’
Chelsea kick-off their Premier League campaign with an away trip to Goodison Park to play Everton.
