William Saliba signs new long-term Arsenal contract

William Saliba has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a new long-term contract that will keep him at Arsenal until 2027.

The 22-year-old joined the Gunners four years ago from Saint Etienne in a £30million deal when was still at the helm.

Saliba spent the early years of his Arsenal career out on loan but finally made his first team debut at the beginning of last season.

A man of the match performance against gave an indication of what was to become as Saliba formed an impressive partnership with that underpinned his side’s title challenge until he sustained a season-ending injury in March.

With just over a year left on his contract, several major European clubs were ready to test Arsenal’s resolve, but the elegant centre-half will remain north London.

Sporting Director Edu, who played a crucial role in negotiations said: ‘We are so happy to have signed a new deal with William Saliba.

‘William is part of our vision to keep our talented young players, who will hopefully be successful with us for many years to come, so that we can grow and progress together.

‘I know the supporters will be just as happy as we are to see William continue with us in the future.’

Manager Mikel Arteta added: ‘To have William extend his contract with us was something we have wanted to do for a long time. William proved last season just how good and how important he is to our squad.

‘The ability he has at his young age of just 22 is exciting, and there is of course so much more room for development with any player at this stage of their career.

‘We’re looking forward to continuing to work with William in the years to come.’
