Louis Saha believes should keep Fred and Scott McTominay at the club this summer.

While United have already secured the Carabao Cup and will take on in the final, a disappointing end to the season sees them limping towards the finish line, still to secure a top four finish.

is expected to continue his rebuild this summer with a striker and a new midfielder top of his list of priorities

McTominay and Fred are among them with the former a target for Newcastle United. Fred meanwhile will enter the final year of his contract next summer after the club exercised a one-year extension at the end of last year.

While a clear-out is expected, former United striker Saha believes the midfield duo are an example of two players who can still grow under ten Hag and play an important role in a title challenge.

‘Looking at the midfield area, there is a lot of creativity as well but it’s important to see a very strong pack. They need the balance in defence and midfield,’ Saha told .

‘There are players, like Scott McTominay and Fred, who can improve and they’re the sort of players who might be wanting to move elsewhere.

‘But with the right tactics, a lot of good things can be done. It’s hugely important to get these types of players on side – without them, you can’t win a title.

‘It’s about how to make them competitive and keep the whole squad on their toes.

‘There is no guarantee at Manchester United; no goalkeeper guarantee, defender guarantee, or captain guarantee, nothing – they don’t deserve it at the moment.

â€˜No one is guaranteed anything at Manchester United right now.’

United have been linked with a number of midfielder heading into the summer transfer window with Frenkie de Jong still of interest despite last summer’s failed pursuit.

Brighton star Felipe Caicedo, West Ham captain Declan Rice and Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic are all reported targets.
