‘Wolves wanted it more’ – Ben Chilwell makes damning admission after Chelsea defeat

has admitted that Wolves players ‘wanted it more than us’ and ‘showed more fight’ than after their embarrassing 4-2 defeat.

Looking to bounce back from the 4-1 loss at Anfield, Chelsea started Sunday’s game, with scoring early on but it all fell apart after that.

A Matheus Cunha hat-trick and an own goal condemned the Blues to a 10th Premier League defeat of the season, with a Thiago Silva consolation unable to spark a revival.

, with many fans calling for Mauricio Pochettino to be sacked with the club now 11th in the table with a negative goal difference.

After the game, the manager admitted ‘no one was safe’ from criticism and his side were ‘not good enough’ – comments vice captain Chilwell echoed.

‘We can’t hide. It wasn’t good enough,’ the England left-back told

‘We started well and got the goal but then we conceded almost straightaway and then it just wasn’t good enough for 70 minutes or so of the game.

‘I think they [Wolves] showed that they ‘wanted it’ more than us. That’s not to say that we didn’t want it, but I think they just showed that bit more fight than us.

‘There’s no excuses but they seemed to win more duels, they seemed to run more than us and from when they scored the first goal, they just seemed to dominate. Like I said, there can be no excuses for this, and we need to put it right quickly.

‘We had chances in the game and it’s up to us to take them. If we take them, then of course that could have helped us get back into the game.

‘We need to be more clinical, like Wolves were at the other end and I think that’s probably what the difference was overall.’

With Chelsea now 15 points off the top four, Champions League qualification is all but over, but they can still win a trophy this season having reached the Carabao Cup final where they’ll face Liverpool.

For now, attention turns to their FA Cup fourth-round replay at high-flying Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
