Jamie O’Hara has labelled Jamie Carragher’s criticism of forward Richarlison ‘a bit harsh’ following Liverpool’s 2-0 win in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.
’s side faced a well-organised Toffees team who made things difficult for the title-chasing Reds at Anfield.
Goals from Andy Robertson and substitute Divock Origi wrapped up the win in the second half to keep the pressure on league leaders .
On the brink of half-time, Richarlison went down after attempting to tackle Thiago, while the play went on.
Carragher, who was on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports, urged the Everton striker to continue.
The Liverpool legend said: ‘Honestly, get up. Get up, carry on… there’s nothing wrong with him.’
But former Tottenham midfielder O’Hara feels Carragher was wrong to insinuate that Richarlison was cheating.
‘The two ones that they were moaning about in the first half – one was a corner that came at him really quick and he headed it away and I think it just frazzled him a little bit. The second one was an innocuous challenge that actually looked a bit [like] it hurt him,’ O’Hara told talkSPORT.
‘It was just because they were getting frustrated, Liverpool, that the fans started getting on his back. I think it’s a little bit harsh to say he was cheating, I thought Richarlison played really well.
‘The two where he went down, I think he was hurt. And I think it was a little bit harsh for Carragher to come out and say, “Get up”. You shouldn’t say that.
‘No, you don’t know how he’s feeling. He might’ve done his ACL or MCL, them challenges, you don’t know. There was contact and he was in pain.
‘I understand, play on, get on with the game, no problem. But don’t start making him out to be a cheat because I disagree with that.’
