Danny Murphy has urged to leave for a title-challenging club, with , and Chelsea all interested.

Rice is one of the world’s best young players in his position and has been linked with a transfer away from the London Stadium for some time, although the England international still has two-and-a-half years on his contract.

But former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder Murphy believes Rice should not be patiently waiting for a big money move, telling : ‘If I’m him, I’m going.

‘Are you going to deprive yourself of another season not being able to win the Premier League and the Champions League?

‘West Ham fans will get frustrated with people saying it constantly because they’ve had it before.’

A runner-up with the Three Lions at last summer’s Euros, Rice’s wait for a trophy could be over by the end of this campaign with West Ham in the Europa League semi-finals, where they will face Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old has already made 189 appearances for the Irons but has reportedly rejected several new contract offers from the club.

Both Manchester clubs are currently the favourites to sign the player, ahead of Chelsea who let Rice go from their academy, and the Blues may not be able to afford bringing him back to Stamford Bridge while they undergo a change of ownership.

West Ham manager David Moyes has been reluctant to comment on the transfer saga, saying: ‘We like Dec and he’s got time to go on his contract, so I don’t think there is any big panic.

‘It isn’t the biggest priority. We’ve got other priorities, trying to add to the squad and get other positions in.

‘Maybe he just wants more money. People do turn down contracts. It is not unusual for players at clubs to turn down contracts, maybe it is a negotiation tactic.’
