Roma consider Jesse Lingard move after being offered departing Manchester United star

Roma are considering a move for Jesse Lingard on a free transfer after his departure from was confirmed.

On Wednesday, it was announced the Englishman, 29, will depart Old Trafford after 22 years at the club.

Lingard, whose contract runs out at the end of June, featured just 16 times in the Premier League last season after falling out-of-favour under and .

However, according to Italian outlet , Roma are thinking of signing Lingard after being offered the player by his agent.

Despite not playing much in recent years, Lingard showed his quality during a loan spell at West Ham in 2021 when he scored nine goals in 16 Premier League matches.

It is thought the Hammers also hold an interest in Lingard with the east London side and Roma both believing he can rediscover his form given the opportunity.

Roma’s manager Jose Mourinho worked with Lingard at United between 2016 and 2018 and inspired him to produce some of his best football.

In the last two years, he made just 25 appearances for the Red Devils after falling behind the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga in the pecking order.

His time at United ended on a sour note after his brother hit out at the club for not giving Lingard a send-off at Old Trafford.

During more than a decade with the senior team at the Manchester giants, he won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.

Speaking via social media about his departure, Lingard said: ‘Born and bred a red. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been emotional about leaving a club that is family. 

‘After 22 years I’ve had so many special memories and moments that I will cherish forever. Man Utd will always remain in my heart. A massive thank you. Lots of love Jlingz.’
