’s potential new owner Todd Boehly will get the club’s transfer plans underway as soon as his takeover is confirmed and is preparing to invest heavily.

The American was in attendance at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and will have been alarmed with the Blues surrendering a two-goal lead to Wolves as their poor form continues.

Since government sanctions were put on Russian owner Roman Abramovich the club’s transfer dealings have been halted and, according to the , Boehly is conscious that Chelsea are behind their rivals in the chase for Europe’s top talent this summer.

The west Londoners have been unable to extend the contracts of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christiansen who are both set to leave at the end of the season with and interested in their signatures.

The loss of Rudiger and Christiansen means Thomas Tuchel will likely target two centre-backs in the summer window with Malang Sarr, Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva his remaining options in the position.

The German has been unhappy with his side’s defending in recent weeks with 10 goals conceded in their last four Premier League games at home.

However, there are also concerns in attack with Romelu Lukaku failing to impress since his £97 million move from Inter Milan last summer.

The Belgian scored two goals on Saturday but has hit the back of the net only seven times in the league this season after falling out-of-favour with Tuchel.

Reports suggest Chelsea are open to Lukaku moving on at the end of the season but a destination will prove hard to find considering the wages and potential transfer fee involved.

With only one win in their last five Premier League games, Boehly is committed to investing in the squad once his £2.5 billion deal gets the seal of approval from the Premier League and the government.

The 46-year-old has a strong track record of spending money on his baseball team the LA Dodgers with the wage bill believed to be over £200 million.
