Adele finally opens up on why she canned Las Vegas residency: ‘It was the worst moment in my career, by far’

has opened up on her reasons for cancelling her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency last minute.

The Easy On My songstress famously canned her Vegas gigs hours before taking to the stage at the start of this year, blaming the pandemic on the shows ‘not being ready’.

Following her tearful announcement video, there was much speculation around when she would return, with it since confirmed that .

Adele has reflected on her professional low point, saying that scrapping the shows at Colosseum at Caesars Palace was ‘the worst moment in my career, by far’.

She in the five months since, even as rumours about production issues and set disagreements swirled, but now she’s eager to address what really went down.

‘I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating’, she told Elle UK in her interview for the October cover.

She admitted that she was by cancelling her residency, but she also knew in her bones that something about the show did not feel authentic to her

‘There was just no soul in it. The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment’, she said.

Adele added that she felt ‘embarrassed’ after axing the shows, but the decision ultimately made her confidence grow.

‘The first couple of months were really, really hard. I was embarrassed. But it actually made my self-confidence in myself grow, because it was a very brave thing to do’, she shared.

‘And I don’t think many people would have done what I did. I’m very proud of myself for standing by my artistic needs.’

As her reimagined Las Vegas residency looms, the Hello hitmaker teased a lot of storytelling in her performance, showcasing her journey from the beginning of her career until now.

She refuses to give too much away, but has assured fans that it will be ‘all about the music’ and it’s ‘really nostalgic’ and ‘beautiful’.

‘I haven’t got any bullet points, obviously, when I talk. That’s why my shows are so erratic. One time I gave, like, an hour speech about an aquarium!’, she quipped, in reference to how the Grammy winner’s shows (which we love).

Fans have been dying for thew new Vegas dates, but Adele thinks now is just the ‘right’ time: ‘I know I’m not, like, 60 years old and I haven’t got 20 albums under my belt. But I think my music will work in a show in Vegas’.

She’s also excited to finally share in the communal enjoyment of her new music, after doing limited promo for her latest album, 30.

Adele believes the residency is ‘gonna be so emotional’ and we definitely think audience members will need tissues.
