BBC didn’t report allegations presenter paid for sexual photos of teen to police ‘as Met reveals there is no investigation’

bosses are said to have skipped out on reporting allegations made against one of the channel’s unnamed stars. 

The news came amid revelations one of the network’s was taken off air while investigations got underway following claims they received financial compensation for nude images. 

Removed from broadcasting, the accused presenter reportedly from a teenager when they were 17 years old. 

The allegations were originally made to the BBC by the youth’s mother in May, however despite this, the corporation is said to have failed to report them to the .

A spokesperson from the Met explained to the: ‘As far as we’re aware there have been no reports to the Met and there is no Met investigation.’

The news of the payments came amid calls from shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves for said presenter to be suspended while an investigation was carried out.

She told the Sophy Ridge On Sunday programme on Sky News the allegations are ‘deeply concerning’.

Rachel said: ‘The idea that some presenters think that they act with impunity and they can get away with these sorts of things, it does call into question the ethics, the investigations, how long these things take.

‘The BBC, but also other broadcasters, do need to get a grip because we seem to lurch from one Scan**l to another and more needs to be done.’

She added: ‘When serious allegations are made like this I don’t think it is right that people stay in those jobs while those very serious investigations go on.’

In response to the allegations, a BBC spokesperson said: ‘The BBC first became aware of a complaint in May.

‘New allegations were put to us on Thursday of a different nature and in addition to our own inquiries we have also been in touch with external authorities, in line with our protocols.

‘We can also confirm a male member of staff has been suspended.

‘We expect to be in a position to provide a further update in the coming days as the process continues.

‘The BBC board will continue to be kept up to date.’
