Comedian was on to discuss her new documentary, however both she and the programme declined to name it.

The star, best-known for appearing on the likes of The Last Leg, 8 Out of 10 Cats and her own stand-up, is preparing to release a documentary which looks at the online abuse she has received as a person.

However it has for the ableist slur in the title: Am I A R****d?

Rosie, who has cerebral palsy, has explained that the title is intentionally jarring, and that she is and how people view disabled people.

She admitted however that it is as disabled people hit out at the title.

Rosie appeared on Tuesday’s The One Show, where hosts Jermaine Jenas and Lauren Laverne introduced her and the documentary, however did not use the documentary’s name.

Lauren explained: ‘The documentary has got a controversial title and it features a word that many people find offensive, so we’re not going to use it on the show tonight.’

She went on to give Rosie the chance to explain why she felt the word needed to be included.

Rosie herself said she wouldn’t use the title on the show, but that it ‘includes a shocking ableist slur and unfortunately that slur has been used against me pretty much every week for my entire life,’ and that it has ‘upset a lot of people from within the disabled community’.

Defending it, she argued: ‘In my opinion the ableist slurs… are not taken as seriously as other forms of abuse,’ explaining she ‘still hears the R-word used in pubs and on streets’.

‘So by using that word in the title I really wanted to start the conversation around ableism and abuse.’

The star recently spoke to Metro.co.uk where she opened up on how she was treated by other people because of having cerebral palsy, explaining: ‘I will open up Twitter and see people abuse me everyday, I will walk down the street and have people shout ableist slurs at me, I will order an Uber and the driver will see me and assume I’m drunk and drive away, and these were always daily minute forms of ableism that ended up swallowing how I felt about myself.

‘So it came to a point that I thought I don’t want to be quiet and I don’t want to swallow all of this hate and abuse because I swallow enough disability hate that then becomes self-hate and that will affect my own mental health.’

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One
