has shocked Big Bang Theory fans everywhere by unveiling a perm that’s already been compared to .
The American actress and gameshow host, 47, played Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit geeky sitcom, joining towards the end of the show’s third season.
From then on, she became the love interest and eventual wife of ’ Sheldon Cooper, eventually marrying each other in the season 11 finale.
Posting on Instagram, Mayim, also a neuroscientist, shared the surprise ‘do with her 4.7m followers, saying: ‘TBT to the bad perm flashback episode!’
The photo was taken on the set of Mayim’s own sitcom, Call Me Kat, which ran for three seasons on Fox and was based on hit BBC comedy Miranda.
And fans of both shows were surprised on Thursday when the 47-year-old actress, who has also authored four books in total, unveiled a brand new perm.
Mayim’s devotees and followers were keen to take a trip down memory lane, not just revisiting Call Me Kat but their own perms from the past.
One fan said: ‘Oh my gawd. Too many memories. Flashback to when my mother gave me a Toni perm. Looked like that except blonde and I was 10.’
A second person commented, ‘At first glance, I thought you were Carla from Cheers,’ referencing Rhea Perlman’s character from the 1980s US sitcom.
Another user remarked that Mayim resembled ‘Ice Spice’, whose signature look has featured brightly coloured perms since she emerged with hit single Munch.
After her time on , for which she received four nominations, she took on hosting duties of popular gameshow Jeopardy.
She has stayed in the role since 2021 – although she has gone on hiatus as part of the ongoing Sag-Aftra strike, which has now rolled into its second month.
Call Me Kat was cancelled after three seasons following a decline in viewership, and received mostly negative reviews during its time on the air.
It is not known when Mayim will , with the show’s near future uncertain as a result of the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.
