star Brett Goldstein revealed that directors would give him ‘terrorist’ roles based on his headshots.
The 42-year-old comedian is currently one of the big names from ’ heartwarming comedy thanks to his lovable yet foul-mouthed character Roy Kent.
However, the Shrinking actor shared his initial struggles pursuing roles at the start of his career.
‘All I would ever get audition offers for was terrorists,’ he explained.
‘I guess they see my headshot and go, “Well, he looks like a terrorist!’” he added to
Brett’s role as a writer on Ted Lasso – which also stars Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham – led to him being cast in the programme due to the affinity he felt with the character.
His performance was later recognised at both the 2021 and 2022 Emmys Awards, earning him the gong for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series two years in a row.
While the show has received critical acclaim Eurovision 2023 host Hannah, who plays Rebecca Welton, recently shared her theory about why
‘I wonder sometimes if British audiences don’t watch it because they think it’s about football,’ she said while on This Morning.
‘But it’s actually about very much the human condition that we find through comedy, all the ridiculous things about ourselves, with the backdrop of football.
‘A brilliant backdrop of football, but its about all of us supporting each other.’
She elsewhere added that she totally underestimated the show, saying: ‘I actually said to Jason Sudeikis, I hope he’s not offended, but myself and Brett Goldstein who is also one of the writers, we stood behind the snack truck at the end of season one, and we were both like, “I don’t think he knows what it is”.’
