Bridget Jones is back with ‘filming date for fourth movie revealed’

A reinterpretation of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice, the original was based on Helen Fielding’s 1996 novel of the same name.

It followed Bridget Jones, a , who writes a diary which focuses on the things she wishes to happen in her life.

However, she soon faces a conundrum when two men start to vie for her affection.

The sequel saw her relationship progress with one of the men, however the third movie saw her find out she was unexpectedly pregnant and then had to figure out which of her two lovers was the father.

Now, a fourth movie following her romantic pursuits will start filming in the coming months in London, with the original stars Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant set to reprise their roles as the titular character, Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver.

Pre-production is already ‘well under way’, with shooting to begin in May, as reported by the .

The actress is also reportedly looking for a home to live in while working on the project.

‘Bridget is back and is about to take over London,’ a movie source told the publication.

‘Filming is being mapped out already and all of the pre- production is in place.

‘There was some uncertainty about whether it would get off the ground, but the movie is coming.’

They added: ‘Renee is excited about bringing Bridget back. She adores the character so much. Bridget Jones fever is expected to sweep across London this spring.’

The most recent film ended with Bridget marrying Mark, whom she’d had a rollercoaster romance with over the three movies, with the lawyer also revealed as the father of her baby.

Hugh did not appear in that film however, as his character was presumed dead at the beginning.

But, by the end a newspaper report that said he had been found alive.

Two years ago, a source told The Sun that plans for a movie were underway.

‘Producers always knew there was a huge market for another sequel when the right story was available, and this feels like the right time to tell it,’ the insider said.

‘It will be seven or eight years since the last movie by the time this one hits the big screen, and fans will be desperate to find out what happened. It’s a British classic.’

When asked about a fourth movie instalment that same year, Fielding revealed she was working on an adaptation of her 2013 novel Mad About the Boy, which takes place four years after the tragic death of Mark Darcy and sees Bridget navigate the difficulties of being a single parent and returning to the dating pool as a fifty-something-year-old.

However, she told Radio Times that every one of her films that got made was a ‘miracle’.

‘I think it’s really difficult to make films and to make them happen and to make them good and we want it to be really good. But I really hope so. I’d love to see it on the screen,’ she added.

The original movie grossed £222 million at the box office.
