Britain’s Got Talent bosses ‘insist David Walliams knew his disgusting comments could have been aired’

This comes after Walliams was axed from the programme when an expletive rant including vile comments he made about a contestant were L***ed.

On Tuesday, it was reported that the 52-year-old comedian and children’s author was seeking ‘significant damages’  after he  before being replaced by .

Walliams reportedly lodged papers at London’s High Court last Thursday, and accused Fremantle of ‘a data protection breach over the L***ed transcript’.

It has now been claimed that BGT bosses insist that Walliams knew his disgusting words could have been put on air.

A source said: ‘There has been much back and forth between David and Fremantle for the last ten months, since he was sacked from BGT.

‘He is saying that Fremantle breached his data rights but he was made well aware two years before he made the comments that they could be put out into the public domain.’

The insider continued to : ‘It was a change to the show which was widely publicised to viewers, the press and the judges.

‘There is very little doubt amongst many working on the show that it was one of the freelance workers who L***ed the transcript, perhaps someone who didn’t like David very much.’

The publication also notes that in April 2018, BGT bosses announced a new change to the format of the show, which could see all off-air comments made by the judges aired.

It has been claimed that a press release, which was seen by Walliams and the rest of the judging panel, included an announcement that stated their off-mic conversations and gossip could be made public at Fremantle’s discretion.

, , and  returned to the programme without the Little Britain star for the most recent series, and while there had been widespread speculation over why he left the show,there has never been any official confirmation of the reason behind his exit.

Prior to the start of auditions, Walliams came under fire over .

He , stating: ‘I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020.

‘These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.’

Metro.co.uk has approached reps for Walliams and Fremantle for comment.
