Just hours after sharing their father Bruce Willis’s , Rumer and Scout were seen in Los Angeles, as fans shared an outpouring of support for the Hollywood star.
On Wednesday 67-year-old star Bruce’s family, wife Emma Heming, ex-wife Demi Moore and three grown-up daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah, each shared a statement revealing the star had been diagnosed with the cognitive condition and, as a result, would be stepping away from acting.
Afterwards, Bruce’s daughters Rumer, 33, and Scout, 30, were seen in Los Angeles for the first time since announcing the news, as they headed to a pre-Coachella event at Infinity House in West Hollywood.
The pair appeared in good spirits, with Rumer rocking a white dress and brown boots as she held a phone up to her ear, while Scout wore sweater and black shorts.
She flashed a smile as she walked along the footpath, before sharing a statement thanking followers for their outpouring of love amid the news.
Aphasia is a condition that impacts a person’s language skills and can cause trouble with reading, writing, listening and speaking. According to the NHS, it usually starts due to damage to the left side of the brain after something like, for example, a serious head injury or a stroke.
Perhaps most noticeably, people who have aphasia might have problems speaking, such as by possibly mistakenly using certain words, using the wrong sounds, or using words in the wrong order. It does not impact intelligence, but it can emerge both by itself or alongside other health issues like mobility problems and issues with memory.
The earlier statement shared by the sisters had read: ‘To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.
‘As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.
‘This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support’.
‘We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him,’ it continued.
‘As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that.’
Scout in the day to thank everyone for the ‘exquisite outpouring of love’ that she and her family received amid the news.
The actor has enjoyed a performing career spanning over four decades and in hugely popular films including Pulp Fiction, Look Who’s Talking, Armageddon and his most iconic role, that of John McClane in the Die Hard movies.
