has revealed the ultimatum she gave husband before they had their first baby together, saying that she told him he had to marry her first.
The couple, who shared second-born child on Friday, alongsid for the first time – Wave Set Cephus – spoke in a new joint interview alongside their five children.
As well as Wave, Cardi, 29, is also mother to daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, three, with Offset, real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus.
Offset, 30, is father too to Jordan Cephus, 12, and Kalea Marie Cephus and Kody Cephus, both seven, from previous relationships.
WAP rapper Cardi, real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, explained that Offset had first suggested they had children together in a, um, moment of passion.
However, she had joked she wouldn’t let it happen before they made their relationship official.
She told : ‘We were making out and he was like, “You’re going to have my baby one day”, and I was like, “We ain’t having no baby. You have to marry me,” and he was like, “Alright, let’s get married.”’
The pair tied the knot in Atlanta in September 2017, just eight months after they first met each other.
They welcomed Kulture in July 2018, but split temporarily months later before reconciling, separating again in 2020, before once more.
Cardi also revealed in the interview that Offset was a big support to her during her first pregnancy when she was worried about losing the momentum of her career.
‘He kept telling me, “Trust me. It’s going to be alright. You’re huge. Everybody loves you. People are going to understand.” And I just kept telling myself, I have to put out my album before I get big and I can’t do these music videos. I can’t let everybody in the industry that believes in me down.’
Addressing the backlash to her first pregnancy, when she was put down for being ‘a fourth baby mom’, the rapper shared that her husband set an example as a father that meant she wasn’t worried.
‘But when I had my baby, I felt like things were going to be alright, because I know the type of man that he is with his kids,’ she said. ‘It’s hard for me to explain, but I see how much he loves his kids and how passionate he is about his kids, and I love that.’
Offset was also full of praise for his wife’s approach to his older children, calling it ‘a blessing’ that Cardi is ‘open and treats them as if they’re her kids’.
‘It could be an issue, but I don’t have to go through that, and that’s beautiful,’ he added.
