Adorably, the couple were actually childhood pen pals but lost touch over the years before rekindling things in a five month whirlwind romance.
They tend to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, although the Little Lion Man singer did for her episode of US sketch show Saturday Night Live.
Waiting until after she had flexed her comedic muscles with jokes about her likeness to fellow actor Michelle Williams, Marcus popped up with an acoustic guitar to serenade his wife.
Not missing a beat, the I Will Wait hitmaker reassured her and joked the kids had been left in the care of ‘the Sons’.

Carey admitted that parenthood had ‘influenced’ her ‘career choices’ over the years.
She added: ‘When they’re tiny, they are sort of portable. Now mine are getting a bit older, it will become clearer what is and isn’t possible for us.’
Despite their high profile careers, Carey insisted their family life ‘is very normal – School runs, Sunday lunches.’
