issued viewers an apology after sharing the gory details from her film shoot in Australia amid the release of her latest offering .
The 53-year-old comedian revealed she encountered a variety of creepy crawlies while shooting scenes for her new series and explained how one insect in particular gave them a bloody hard time.
She was shedding light on the location’s terrain and said the crew ran into an infestation of leeches in the unpredicatable Outback.
Catherine was chatting to BBC’s hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas about her upcoming comedy programme when the topic of critters came up.
When asked about her experience in Australia, she didn’t hold back in offering up the intimacies of filming in a muggy, exoctic climate.
She said: ‘The one thing we did come across – that I’ve never encountered before – was leeches, proper leeches.’
A shocked Alex probed further and asked the star if she had the misfortune of getting any of the animals stuck onto her skin.
Catherine responded: ‘I didn’t, I got one on my Ugg boots. You need to be protected and it wasn’t the middle of summer, the seasons are reversed.’
She went on to explain the ghastly story of how crew members weren’t so lucky and discovered the black creatures sucking on their flesh.
‘It was micro climate so it would be boiling hot one minute and then pouring with rain but someone would be wearing thick jeans and then suddenly they’d go, “Ugh, Dave, Dave, stay still Dave! You’re bleeding”.
‘I mean there would be blood seeping through. Sorry if you’ve just eaten your dinner but yeah, and then when they get full they fall off.’
Her comments were met with a collective grimmace from the star-studded sofa as they digested what the comedian had just told them.
Catherine’s comedy follows the actress as she plays the part of disgraced British royal Princess Georgiana who has been banished to the depths of Australia.
Sent away to rule in another kingdom after her antics became too much, the series will document her adaptation to the outdoor lifestyle.
Queen of Oz will be available to watch on BBC One Friday June 16.
The One Show airs on BBC One from 7pm on weekdays.
