viewers begged to give his mum Emma ‘a break’ after relentlessly travelling across Europe.
The along with other stars including , are trying to zip across the continent in the fastest time possible with no internet and a limited budget.
But on Wednesday’s episode, BBC fans were urging Harry to slow it down after going straight from a 19-hour bus journey to a shift mopping a superyacht without a moment’s pause, with Emma admitting she was ‘struggling.’
On X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer remarked: ‘Harry, come on. Give your mother a break!!’
Their thoughts were echoed by a fellow social media user who added: ‘Effing hell Harry let your mum have a rest #celebrityraceacrosstheworld
A third commented: ‘Feel sorry for Harry’s mum, she’s being pushed beyond her comfort zone. Being first is really not that big a deal, Harry, it’s about sharing time with your travelling companion.’
However, many others were full of praise for Harry and Emma’s tight relationship, with one writing: I love Harry and his Mum’s relationship. The way that they discuss their difficulties/things that are irritating them with/about each other is SO respectful.’
Harry and Emma’s journey from hell began with a nearly 24 hour night bus – complete with ‘gobbing’, loud music and garlic sausage and fag smells.
And if you didn’t think it could get any worse, well, it did, with the bus then blowing a tyre, forcing the mother and son team to camp out in a petrol station until it was fixed.
After that ordeal, most would want to give it a rest, however Harry was determined to find transport immediately to the checkpoint – Sarajevo, Bosnia – more than 300km away.
Emma revealed in a confessional: ‘I’m tired today. I’m pushing myself and I’m struggling a bit. I’ve got to stand up for myself a bit more and say, “No I’m not doing this.” Just be more assertive perhaps?’
True to her word, Emma confronted Harry and suggested they find a hostel for a night, rather than trying to find a route to Bosnia.
Reluctantly, Harry agreed but warned his mother they would need to find a job to replenish the cash they would be spending on accommodation, although began fretting their ‘lead had been compromised.’
Their next stop is a yacht – but not to kick back and relax. Oh no, instead they will be scrubbing the boat’s floors with what little energy they have left.
Looking exhausted, Emma finally put her foot down and said she was too tired to carry on with the intensive cleaning, taking a nap on a sofa.
Harry said: ‘I worried I pushed Mum too hard: she’s slowly deteriorating. But I’m happy to finish it off.’
As they later edge close to Sarajevo, Emma said she was looking forward to ‘rest’, while Harry remarked he was ‘not looking forward to being last.’
‘It doesn’t matter does it Harry?’ she quipped back.
To the relief of us all, Emma and Harry arrived at the checkpoint first, with the musician realising the error of his ways and vowing to focus on the experience rather than winning.
‘I should take a leaf out of Mum’s book,’ he remarked.
Celebrity Race Across the World continues on Wednesday on BBC One and iPlayer at 9pm.
