CM Punk gave a sweet nod to his wife AJ Lee as his made his first appearance on Monday Night Raw since 2014.
The former world champion made aafter almost a decade at Survivor Series: WarGames on Saturday night in his hometown of .
At the end of this week’s episode of Raw, he stepped out in front of a packed crowd in Nashville, Tennessee and addressed the fans for the first time.
He described being back as a ‘career highlight’ and insisted he was back where he belongs, describing WWE as ‘home’.
As well as addressing his 2014 exit and the need to leave to get what he wanted from the company, he gave a shout out to his wife AJ.
He said a lot of people backstage have being asking about , and he added with a smile: ‘AJ is fabulous and she sends her regards.’
Now, fans have been left wondering if she could make her own sensational comeback to the company after her husband made the unlikeliest of returns.
‘AJ Lee has the opportunity to do the funniest thing in the world….and that’s over shadowing her husbands return by entering the Royal Rumble ? #WWERaw,’ joked one viewer.
‘CM Punk has definitely hinted that AJ Lee will Return back to WWE?,’ added another, while a third person said: ‘Punk just mentioned AJ Lee ?? will she return too? ?’
And someone else tweeted: ‘CM Punk name drops AJ Lee. Please don’t tease me Punk. ? #WWERaw Potential return in 2024 at The Royal Rumble. I pray that is the plan. ?? Anything is possible.’
Elsewhere in his comeback speech, Punk claimed some wrestlers behind the scenes were ‘scared’ either because he has raised the bar too high, he has the brass ring in his pocket, or the ‘most dangerous man’ in wrestling has walked right back into WWE.
He also insisted some of them won’t want to admit that despite claims they might be the best in the world, the real ‘best in the world’ is back.
In a final parting shot, Punk looked down the camera and said: ‘I’m not here to make friends, I’m here to make money!’
The idea of AJ Lee returning might not be as farfetched as some fans think, as boss Triple H – real name Paul Levesque – left the door open for both stars as far back as 2020, with his wife at the time.
She told Metro.co.uk at the time: ‘I personally enjoy watching both of them perform. I think Punk’s been pretty vocal that he’s not interested in an in-ring return right now, but for sure, that would be interesting.
‘And I would love to see AJ Lee back in the women’s division.’
