had Irish fans in a frenzy as they scrambled to nab to the band’s Dublin gig next year.
The musical act compensated disappointed fans who failed to get their hands on a pre-sale seat by extending their tour and adding more dates to their run in the Irish capital.
Held at Croke Park, tickets for Coldplay’s tour went on sale on Tuesday morning and caused a stir online after fans were kicked out of queues.
Complaining that they suddenly lost their place in line having finally reached the top of the virtual queue, eager buyers were also faced with more than 100,000 people waiting ahead of them.
In order to combat the upset and massive demand, the band – featuring vocalist and pianist , guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer Will Champion and their creative director Phil Harvey – promised to stay in town a little bit longer.
They announced they would extend their dates to offer two more nights on September 1 and September 2 in 2024.
This news meant that the band’s planned wrap date was pushed back as they had anticipated they would end the Music of the Sphere’s gigs on the Friday night in Dublin.
Fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at the process and failure of this morning’s pre-sale.
One penned: ‘Spent all day trying to get 4 x tickets @coldplay for Dublin in the pre-sale, got them only for @TicketmasterIre to kick me off on payment page and put me back in the queue I had 5 mins to pay, which was 133000 at that point.. gutted! Whilst looking after a baby and 4 year old to [sic].’
Another said: ‘It’s just impossible to get tickets for @coldplay in Dublin. Not even during the pre-sale I spent the whole day in the queue, only to get there on time and have no tickets [sic].’
‘By the time I’m through this queue, it will be September 2024 and Coldplay will have been and gone,’ an annoyed fan tweeted during the earlier scramble.
The band first embarked on their Music Of The Spheres World Tour in March 2022, and have sold more than 7.5 million tickets since – the most ticket sales for any tour over the last two years.
