was seen out and about in City on Sunday and the 66-year-old actor was using crutches.
Showing off his extensive tattoo collection, the Oscar-winner wore a black t-shirt and a green cap as he ran errands in the Big Apple.
Daniel teamed his top with blue tracksuit bottoms and was also carrying an orange backpack.
The acclaimed British actor had a door held open for him as he left a building in the city and his outing comes weeks after he was seen for the first time in four years.
It’s unclear why the star is using crutches, but he appeared in high spirits and at one point even flashed a smile.
Daniel looked just as happy .
The acclaimed actor announced his retirement from the industry six years ago and has very rarely been seen in public since, saying at the time that was a ‘private’ one.
He married his wife Rebecca Miller, 60, in 1996 and they have two children, sons Ronal Cal, 25, and Cashel Blake, 21, with Daniel also having son Gabriel-Kane, 28, from a previous relationship.
Even before retiring, Daniel had long kept his private life out of the spotlight, and announced his retirement in a seriously low-key way.
In 2017, the news came via a statement from his reps which read: ‘Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years.
‘This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.’
His career had spanned four decades and saw him play roles from every walks of life, from US presidents to gang leaders, as well as the incredible true story of Irish artist Christy Brown, who was born with cerebral palsy and worked using only his left foot.
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Daniel’s reps for comment.
