David Tennant’s exciting return to Star Wars confirmed for upcoming Ahsoka Disney Plus series

is set to make an epic return to the fantastical world of in Ahsoka, the upcoming live-action TV series coming to Plus this year.

In just a few months, as Ahsoka Tano, having made her live-action debut as the character in the , before reprising the role once again in .

On the second day of the star-studded Star Wars Celebration in London on Saturday April 8, members of the cast and the creators of the tale – Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni – spoke on stage about what fans can expect from the exciting adventure.

In addition to the actors playing Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla – Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Mary Elizabeth Winstead – appearing on stage, Dave Filoni also revealed that ‘the Doctor’ would be back.

Over a decade ago in 2012, David, 51, voiced the character of droid Huyang in the animated programme Star Wars: The Clone Wars in three episodes.

Now, it’s confirmed that he will be back after his voice was teased in the recently-released trailer for Ahsoka, with Dave announcing to the crowd that ‘The Doctor’ would be returning.

Describing David as a ‘joy’ and a ‘privilege’ to work with, Dave added: ‘He makes it all work.’

Numerous fans celebrated the news on Twitter, with one person predicting that the series will be a ‘masterpiece’.

‘My first love coming back, I’m winning,’ someone else said, while another wrote: ‘We WILL be watching.’

Huyang, an architect droid professor, was understood in the Clone Wars to have been at least a thousand years old, teaching Jedi younglings how to make their lightsabers.

Star Wars isn’t the only huge universe that David is returning to, as he’ll also be , along with Catherine Tate.

Making the announcement last year, returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies said at the time: ‘THEY’RE BACK! The Doctor and Donna! But… how?! He wiped her memory! If she remembers, she’ll die!

‘But, but… is it a flashback? A dream sequence? A lie? A fantasy? A parallel universe?! Alt Doctor? The Land of Fiction?! You’ll find out in 2023 as Doctor Who hits its 60th – diamond! – anniversary!’

Ahsoka is due to air in August 2023 on Disney Plus.
