When someone asks what your embarrassment moment is, you might shudder at the memory. But you can take comfort in the fact that it will probably not be as bad ’s poo story.
Picture this: you’re in ’s Madison Square Garden. It’s November – romantic. You’re with your rockster son , who you sometimes get recognised with in the USA. Hello, fans, you might think…
People are turning to look at you. They must recognise me, you think, as you strut off in your cream trousers.
You throw your hat into the New York sky ‘like Mary Tyler Moore’ feeling utterly fabulous.
It’s all dandy. Until you get back to the hotel room, and your husband says: ‘Do you realise you’ve shat yourself?’
That is, believe it or not, exactly what happened to the Loose Women star, 65. And it wasn’t some distant memory – this happened last year.
No, it’s not some urban legend. This actually happened, folks – and straight from the horse’s mouth, as the Waterloo Road legend told in a recent interview.
When asked about her most embarrassing moment, Denise didn’t hold back with the honest truth.
‘Shitting myself in New York last November,’ she replied, simply.
‘I was wearing cream trousers. We were going to see my son Matty and his band, , at Madison Square Garden, and I was walking through the streets, enjoying the sunshine, pretending I was in some kind of video – throwing my hat into the New York sky like Mary Tyler Moore.
‘I saw a couple of people turn and look at me. Now, although I’m not famous in New York, whenever Matty’s there I do get recognised as his mum, so I’m smiling and waving at them.
‘I went back to the hotel room and bent over to get something out of the suitcase, and my husband said: “Do you realise you’ve shat yourself?”‘
We love a poo story so much, so thanks so much Denise for spreading the love. It was just a shame Joe Lycett’s recently proposed podcast – Turdcast, in which he was going to interview famous people about their poo stories – was fake, and all a big stunt in order to raise awareness of sewage dumping in UK waterways.
He was all set – or so we thought – to get Gary Lineker on the podcast for the first episode to talk about his televised poo, which let’s face it, is perhaps the most famous of all high-poofile poos.
But Denise could have been second up. A noble cause, Joe, but can we please get back to making the podcast?
Elsewhere in Denise’s interview, she revealed that despite her recent pooping in NYC, she is the happiest she’s ever been.
Since September 2019, Denise revealed she’s been free of clinical depression. In the Q&A, she said the person she most admire is her husband, artist Lincoln Townley, for getting sober with her.
‘We anchored each other,’ the Byker Grove actor said. Awrh.
