The director of an unannounced Bungie game has sent fans hunting for an egg that’s in Destiny 2.

We all know that Bungie is working on something new that’s unrelated to Destiny, something that the company is aiming to . Since that’s still years away, it hasn’t shared any official details about it yet – only semi-official ones.

Fans of Bungie have been sent on an Easter egg hunt by Christopher Barrett, a long-time employee who has been with Bungie since 1999 and is now working as game director on an unannounced project.

In response to a Tweet about favourite Easter eggs in video games, Barrett shared an image of a poster in Halo 3: ODST that turned out to be teasing Destiny.

When a fan asked if Bungie had done something similar and hidden a teaser for a new IP in Destiny, Barrett bluntly answered ‘Yes,’ following it up with a ‘Maybe’ and the new moon-with-face emoji.

Naturally, fans have taken that to mean that the teaser is hidden somewhere on the moon in Destiny 2. Although there has yet to be any real discoveries, since the teaser could theoretically be anything.

We already have a basic understanding of Bungie’s next project thanks to some peculiarly descriptive job listings from 2020. They seemed to point to with fantasy elements.

Further listings from 2021, however, suggest that Bungie’s next game will have . It’s unclear whether this is a separate project or if it and the dungeon crawler are the same game.

Bungie also trademarked the name Matter several years ago, leading many to assume that that’s the name of its next game. In what is probably not a coincidence, in discussing the Easter egg, user claimed to have found multiple mentions of the word ‘Matter’ with a capital ‘M’ in Destiny 2.

Whatever Bungie’s next game is it won’t be Destiny 3. That doesn’t mean an end to the franchise, however, as it has plans to expand into other media .

Apart from anything else what’s also unclear is whether the next game will be a PlayStation exclusive. While Bungie was earlier this year, it will remain independent and have the freedom to release its game for other platforms – although that was all said in the context of Destiny 2 and it’s entirely clear whether that will extend to brand new games.
