Ed Sheeran gig sees 17 people hospitalised

The hitmaker, 31, busted out bangers at the Acrisure Stadium on July 8 and venue temperatures climbed to 30.5 °C.

All 17 people were taken to hospital for heat-related illnesses.

During Ed’s show, several fans and workers had to be transported to hospital.

A press release from Pittsburgh’s Public Safety department seen notes 37 calls for service were received by EMS personnel on-call during the gig and that 17 hospital transports were made.

Cara Cruz, an information officer for the city, said in a statement that ‘every transport was for heat-related issues and there were some falls, one seizure, and two cardiac arrest patients’.

It was also noted that the cardiac arrest patients were not members of the audience.

One was ‘a worker tearing down the setup inside the stadium went into cardiac arrest on the floor’.

The other was a paramedic from an outside agency.

Sporting his signature hoodie and jeans, the Without Me hitmaker got the venue going wild as he encouraged them to sing along and held the mic out.

Oh, but the duo didn’t stop there.

In fact, they ended up singing another song – Eminem’s hit Stan.

Teasing the crowd once more, Ed said: ‘He was gonna come on and do one song and I said, “You can’t come on in Detroit and just do one song”.’

‘Do you want another song?’, he asked, already knowing the answer.

The pair then burst into the 2000s tune, with Ed singing verses originally performed by Dido.

Thanking the crowd after his surprise performance, Eminem said: ‘I appreciate you, Detroit. I love you!’
