The 68-year-old has starred as the stuffy psychiatrist since 1984, before landing his very own spin-off in 1993.

Ahead of the release, a video obtained by showed the actor addressing the live studio audience during filming on different occasions, hailing the ‘incredible journey’ he had been on with the character.

‘I’m delighted you’re here. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you’re here, and how grateful we are that we have a chance to do this for you again,’ Kelsey proudly told one lucky crowd.

‘We’ve been working so hard at this thing and it’s been quite a while, and I think we’ve done something quite lovely.’

‘Give us your blessing and wait for us. Give us love, and we’re going to give you love back.’

Anyone else need a tissue after all that?
