Gangs of London teases nail-biting season 2 as thrilling trailer drops

The upcoming second instalment of will hit screens later this year, with what the network is calling an ‘ambitious, visceral, action-packed thriller.’

In case you missed it, the show’s first season followed the Wallace family and their loss of patriarch Finn (Colm Meaney).

His assassination came as a real shock to everyone, resulting in his son Sean (Joe Coel) taking over as head of ’s most powerful crime group.

However, Sean didn’t realise that one of his biggest enemies was rather close to home, with undercover cop Elliott (Sope Dirisu) infiltrating the family.

On top of that, he had the Kurdish Freedom Fighters, the Pakistani Drug Cartel, Welsh travellers and other criminal bodies to answer to.

So, after a thrilling first season, the second promises to be even more dramatic, especially with viewers on the edge of their sets following Sean’s confrontation of Elliott in the first season finale.

An official synopsis for the upcoming second season reads: ‘One year after the death of Sean Wallace and the violent reckonings of series one, the map and soul of London has been redrawn.

‘The surviving Wallaces are scattered, the Dumanis broken and estranged, and Elliot is now being forced to work for the Investors.’

It continues: ‘Is the Investors look down on a city sliding into chaos they decide enough is enough and bring in reinforcements to restore control.

‘Old favourites and new players fight back against the new order, forcing sworn enemies to work together and family members to betray each other. Who will win the battle for London’s soul?’

As for the new trailer, there’s no doubt it’ll give you goosebumps and have you counting down the days until the first episode lands.

‘Really, I’ve seen things you haven’t. You know how it feels to be powerless, to be a pawn in someone else’s game. The things it makes you do,’ Elliot says in a voiceover.

The ambitious thriller arrived in April 2020, and the crime drama went on to win four awards at Wales’ biggest film and TV awards ceremony the following year.

The TV series won awards for photography and lighting, sound, editing and production design in Bafta Cymru.

It has since been dubbed a ‘modern day Peaky Blinders’ thanks to its ambitious storytelling and visceral viewing experience, with a modern take on gang dramas.

Gangs of London season 2 airs on Sky and NOW later this year.
