Gigi Hadid has officially signed off Twitter for good following Elon Musk’s controversial $44billion takeover.
The 51-year-old Tesla owner’s recent £38billion has dominated the headlines with one of the main controversies being the billionaire CEO’s plan to make blue tick verification – which has previously only been for public figures, celebrities, journalists and large organisations – available to everyone, providing they pay the $8 (£7) fee.
The supermodel recently voiced her opinion over the dramatic changes and slammed the app’s ‘new leadership.’
Explaining her reasoning behind deleting the popular platform, she penned via Instagram Stories: ‘For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate and bigotry, and its not a place I want to be a part of.
She also explained that she only feels ‘sorry to the fans’, whom she loved connecting with for nearly a decade.
‘But I can’t say it’s a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than harm,’ she added.
Musk’s reign as Chief Twit has , with some stars taking a break from the app altogether.
Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes was among those bidding farewell to followers.
‘Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye,’ she wrote.
Love Song hitmaker Sara Bareilles said that she is ‘out’, but added that fans can continue to follow her on other platforms.
‘Welp. It’s been fun Twitter,’ she said. ‘I’m out. See you on other platforms, peeps. Sorry, this one’s just not for me.’
On Sunday (October 30), Musk said in a tweet that Twitter was revising its user verification process.
The CEO of Tesla has not made a final decision and the project could still be scrapped but it is likely that verification will become a part of Twitter Blue.
