As Pete watched the Dean undertake this task, he became visibly emotional and said: ‘Don’t know why that’s really upsetting me.’

‘Well if you think, she’s had them for 70 years,’ replied his sister Sophie before reaching over to stroke his arm in sympathy as Pete fought to hold back tears.

Other members of the Gogglebox cast were also upset as they watched the footage, with Stephen and Daniel teary during the proceedings and reflecting on the fact that people would never see the Queen again or hear her deliver a Christmas Speech.

‘I tell you now Lee, there ain’t a country in the world that can do it like we do it,’ Jenny Newby proclaimed to her friend of the pomp and circumstance of the proceedings.

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
