There have been various injuries in The tent over the years… and the latest bloody mishap has left fans feeling queasy.
On the latest episode of the 2023 series on , the remaining bakers took on Pastry Week.
The culinary aficionados had to face making savoury picnic pieces for their signature bakes, a fancy puff pastry dish for the technical and decorative sweet pies for their all-important showstoppers.
However, Dan – who has proven to be one of the strongest contenders in this year’s competition – accidentally got himself into a spot of trouble by sustaining a grisly wound during the technical.
While doing a spot of grating, he revealed that he needed a plaster after he accidentally grated his own knuckles, and the blood had actually got into his pastry, resulting in him having to make a new batch.
Truly stomach-churning stuff.
One viewer reacted to the slip-up on X (formerly Twitter) by writing: ‘Oh Dan,’ alongside a nauseous-looking emoji.
Another compared Dan to Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd, who had a propensity for making pies using human meat, remarking: ‘Not Dan doing a Mrs Lovett by getting blood in his pastry.’
Someone else pointed out that given the episode of Bake Off is airing exactly a week before Halloween on October 31st, the moment was technically in keeping with the spooky season.
‘I think Dan could have got away with blood in his pastry, it is nearly Halloween eh #GBBO @BritishBakeOff,’ they said.
Even though that may be the case, we’d definitely prefer our pastries sans blood, thank you very much.
Despite the hiccup during his technical, Dan still managed to bake his way back to the top, earning the top spot in the technical after being judged by Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith.
The latest episode of the show will see two bakers face elimination, after no one was sent home last week.
The pressure is on!
The Great British Bake Off returns next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
