has revealed what it was like to see don his Jedi robes again after 17 years on the set of , saying it was a ‘special moment’.
The upcoming series on Plus will see Hayden reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker from the prequel trilogy, with the character going on to become the dreaded Darth Vader first seen in the original movie.
There is a lot of mounting anticipation for the show, with the trailer showing a glimpse of while the youngster was being raised on Tatooine.
In a new interview, Hayden, 40, said that it was ‘amazing’ to put his iconic costume back on, describing it as a ‘great honour’.
While he couldn’t go into too much detail ‘in terms of behind-the-scenes type stuff’, he did disclose how it felt to see Ewan, 51, back as the wise Jedi Master Obi-Wan after almost two decades.
Speaking to , he said: ‘I can tell you the first time that I saw Ewan as Obi-Wan again, that was a very special moment for me and one that I’ll remember for a very, very long time.’
Hayden explained that while making Star Wars projects, there is a sense of ‘shared excitement’ as ‘everyone’s real excited to be there’, adding: ‘You feel that energy, and that’s a really special thing.’
There is much speculation over how Anakin will be incorporated into Obi-Wan Kenobi, with concept art indicating that the titular character and Darth Vader are .
Many fans are also hoping to see Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting together during the Clone Wars, considering they both fought alongside one another in the conflict.
There are some who are therefore hoping Rosario Dawson could also appear as Ahsoka Tano, having been depicted as Anakin’s Padawan in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Ahsoka is set to appear in her own Disney Plus series, having made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian before returning in spin-off The Book of Boba Fett.
Hayden said that he was ‘really excited to come in and play Darth Vader at this point in the timeline because it did feel like a natural continuation of your journey with the character’, saying that it was ‘very meaningful’ for him.
Earlier this month, Ewan , telling Entertainment Weekly: ‘‘To see Hayden back in the role of Anakin, well… it was sort of spine-tingling.’
‘It was amazing. It was just amazing to see Hayden full-stop. I’m so close to him – we’ve stayed in touch over the years, but we haven’t seen each other for a long time,’ he said.
‘I looked across at him and we’re on a set and… I look over at him and he’s Anakin now, and I’m Obi-Wan now, and it’s like nothing had happened.’
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to premiere on Wednesday May 25 on Disney Plus.
