and his wife Hilaria are , but Hilaria is choosing not to publicly reveal their sex yet.
The couple – who married in 2012 – already share Carmen, eight, Rafael, six, Leonardo, five, Romeo, three, Eduardo, 19 months, and Lucia, 13 months.
When breaking the news that they have another on the way, they described Hilaria’s pregnancy as ‘a blessing and a gift.’
However, the 38-year-old says she’s holding off revealing their sex following the heartbreak of a miscarriage in 2019.
Taking to her Instagram story, Hilaria addressed her followers: ‘So many of you are asking what I’m having… I do know and I will tell you but I’m waiting for two things.’
She continued: ‘I lost a baby 4 months into 2019 (maybe some of you remember). I think about her daily and understand that motherhood has its beauty and its darkness.’
The expectant mum wants to wait until she’s ‘past the point when I lost my daughter’ before making any big announcements.
Hilaria suffered two pregnancy losses in 2019, with another one around 10 weeks.
She was incredibly open about her experiences online, inviting other women to share their stories too.
Following her 16-week miscarriage, she wrote for : ‘Even though I’d had a miscarriage before, I don’t think I could have fathomed how bad it could feel to have a miscarriage at 16 weeks. I had to go home and sleep with my dead baby inside me. I felt sick, sour in my belly, and so devastated.’
She said she ‘kept waking up and thinking it must have all been a very vivid bad dream’ and she ‘cried so much that my eyes were nearly swollen shut.’
There’s also another reason why she’s keeping her baby’s sex private for now, and it’s to do with her allyship to the LGBTQ+ community and the stereotypes around gender roles.
‘Many of you know how connected I am to the LGBTQIA+ community and I am talking with a few close confidants on how I can be thoughtful and inclusive on helping to curate a more gender inclusive world.
‘Quite frankly, it may just be continuing on as I have. But given all of the prejudice I’m seeing in this country right now, I think I need to pause and give it a good think and get some advice,’ the American star wrote.
Hilaria said it ‘pains’ her ‘so much’ to see that ‘people are vilified and harassed and not included for simply being whole they are. Peaceful, loving, beautiful humans.’
As the Hollywood couple prepare to expand their family, Alec – who also has daughter Ireland Baldwin, 26, with ex-wife Kim Basinger – is getting back to work on new projects.
