Ted Lasso star Phil Duster has revealed that there was a line football icon point blank refused to say while filming for the show’s upcoming third season.

The popular pundit is playing himself in starring and had trouble with a line written for him that had the potential to ignite footie-based trouble in his neck of the woods of north .

The former player’s line saw him asked to refer to bitter rivals Tottenham in a positive way, something at which Ian drew the line – and we get it.

Explaining what when down on set, Phil set the scene with the ‘Arsenal legend’ and a bit of patter he was supposed to deliver.

‘It was in the script that he says, “You know, it’s gonna be a tough game for Richmond because Tottenham are a great side.”

‘And he was like, “I can’t say it. I’m just not going to say it. I’m sorry.”

‘And he was really lovely. He was just like, “You’re going to have to change it because I can’t say that”, the actor told hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on their .

Joking that ‘it’s just acting, Ian’, Phil added: ‘But he was like, “I can’t go back to north London if I said that.”’

Nick and Angela welcomed the Ted Lasso stars as their first guests on their new podcast, Dish

Phil appeared on Dish, which sees its (very happy, we’re sure) guests treated to a meal cooked by OBE-awarded chef Angela, while Nick sticks to serving drinks and chat, with his Ted Lasso co-star Hannah Waddingham, and the pair also reminisced on how ‘weird’ it was being ‘normal, silly English people’ attending the Emmy Awards.

Hannah shared: ‘It is weird when you do see people off the telly in a room and they look like the people off the telly, but then they might’ve seen you on the telly and then they go, “Hi”. And you’re like, too weird.

‘Or they come up and they’re going, “Oh my God, I love the show”. And you’re like, “You’re Michael Douglas”. It’s mental.

‘You know me, I’m literally from Wandsworth Common and I’m a complete kn*b. It’s really odd.’

Hannah, who scooped an Emmy for her portrayal of AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton on the show, also admitted that Catherine O’Hara was the really famous person she was most starstruck by meeting.

‘We are writing it like that. It was planned as three [seasons],’ he said.

In attempt to lift the mood, the star joked to: ‘Spoiler alert — everyone dies.’

Not cool Brett, not cool.
