fans have slammed legend Kerri-Anne Kennerley after she refused to take part in two challenges mere days into before quitting entirely.
The latest season of the local version , with famous faces from Down Under jetting off to South Africa to put themselves through their paces as they endure stomach-churning challenges with the aim of raising money for their chosen charity.
One of these is Kerri-Anne, 69, who has appeared on Australian TV since 1967, and previously hosted a self-titled morning programme.
But despite signing up, and $180,000 (£96,000), she has decided to bow out.
When told by that her first challenge was set to involve wading through excrement and ‘getting sprayed with sewerage and maggots’ to find gold stars, she stood her ground.
‘I would rather play golf,’ she insisted.
It was safe to say those watching on at home were not impressed.
‘Why did KAK bother going onto I’m A Celebrity? No team player. Totally selfish. She may once have been labelled an icon, but she’s now an entitled has-been who deserves little respect,’ one person posted on Twitter.
Another added: ‘Why did she come on this show if she refuses to do the trials?’
It didn’t help that when she walked away from the challenge, Kerri-Anne flashed a beaming grin and blew kisses to the hosts as she left.
While Kerri-Anne didn’t take part, Below Deck star Aesha Scott pushed through and braved exploring port-a-loos to secure all 13 stars.
But because Kerri-Anne pulled out, Aesha was only able to keep half, meaning the meals for the whole camp were lacking.
The next night she was again given a chance to undertake a challenge, but again expressed her disinterest.
Three days in, she quit after not being able to stomach the idea of chomping down on kudu (antelope) testicles.
Declaring she would rather go home than eat them, she offered campmate and former Married At First Sight star Domenica Calarco her make-up if she left.
‘I don’t want your 1989 Revlon lipstick darl,’ Domenica clapped back.
After returning from camp a teary Kerri-Anne then said staying in camp would be unhealthy for the whole group, and made her way out.
Before this all, Kerri-Anne had already riled up some of her campmates, in particular Domenica, who was not impressed that the TV legend was able to take make-up into the jungle.
Contestants are usually not permitted to take luxury items into camp, however Kerri-Anne negotiated additional terms into her contract before agreeing to take part.
But the double standards annoyed Domenica, who made her opinion on the matter clear, saying she felt like there had been a ‘power imbalance’.
After speaking to other campmates about it, she first stormed off in tears before sitting down with Kerri-Anne, who said it would have been a ‘deal breaker’ if producers had not allowed her to bring in her blush and lipstick.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! airs on Channel Ten in Australia.
